In 1990 the Bolivian Data Communication Network BolNet registered the "dot bo" as the country code for the Top Level domain (ccTLDs). With that step, Bolivia went on to have its own name to register and control the services of web pages and emails created on the network. The first website in the country was Bolnet, while the email appeared in 1993. Since July 1995 the use extends to pages and networks.
In 1996, Bolnet registered with ICANN the domain that identifies Bolivia. Then, Bolnet passes to the ADSIB through Supreme Decree 26553, on March 19, 2002, as the one in charge of proposing policies, implementing strategies and coordinating oriented actions
to reduce the digital divide in Bolivia, through the promotion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in all areas, with the main mission of fostering government relations with society through the use of technologies
adequate. In addition, the administrator Nic Bolivia was created the same year.
The number of users expanded massively during the 19 years of existence of the "dot bo". The acquisition of these addresses is done by national companies and international brands, such as Coca-Cola or Google. According to the latest reports
it is pointed out that of the total of "dot bo", a good part correspond to national and international firms. In the latter case, the majority are requests from the United States, Chile and Spain, respectively, from more than 18 nations.
